Who We Are
Blackfeet Missing and Murdered Indigenous People is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 dedicated to providing support and advocacy for missing and murdered Indigenous individuals and their families. Based in Montana, this Indigenous-centered organization works to end violence against Indigenous people by raising awareness through education, understanding jurisdictional roles, improving data collection and reporting methods, and providing comfort and support for survivors and family members.

To raise awareness, educate the public, and work towards sustainable solutions that address the crisis of missing and murdered
persons faced by Indigenous communities.
Our Vision
There will exist a greater awareness for those who are missing and an interconnectedness among all available resources. These dynamic interconnections encourage a healthy lifestyle for all involved by helping families and communities cope with fear and grief.

SELF-DEFENSE
We provide professionally taught self-defense classes for all ages and genders that are fun, interactive, and empowering.
Our goal of empowering and healing Indigenous peoples is deeply personal and rooted in our own community's historical and ongoing experiences of trauma and loss. Our organization works tirelessly to raise awareness and develop effective solutions to address this crisis, aiming for justice and healing.

The Blackfeet Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) organization is at the forefront of addressing the critical issues of violence affecting Indigenous communities. Key aspects of their mission include: Community Engagement: By creating safe spaces where families can express their grief and seek support, Blackfeet MMIP facilitates healing and resilience. Their work is inclusive, serving individuals across neighboring reservations and all nationalities.
Education and Awareness: The organization prioritizes educational initiatives, particularly on human trafficking prevention. They conduct training events for diverse audiences to equip them with knowledge about trafficking indicators and response protocols, aiming to protect vulnerable populations and support victims.
Awareness Campaigns: Blackfeet MMIP runs various initiatives such as awareness walks, self-defense classes, and crisis intervention efforts. These events not only raise public awareness about the missing and murdered Indigenous individuals but also strengthen community solidarity and advocacy for justice.
Search and Rescue Operations: The organization’s certified board members lead urban search parties, striving to locate missing individuals when others may not be able or willing to help. Their success in locating missing persons underscores their dedication and effectiveness. The successful location of (7) seven individuals missing in urban communities underscores the commitment and effectiveness of the Blackfeet MMIP in addressing critical situations. This achievement highlights the organization's proactive approach to ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals.
To further assist families and communities, Blackfeet MMIP has developed a comprehensive guide. This document serves to educate families, friends, and community members on how to respond quickly, safely, and efficiently when a loved one goes missing. By providing essential knowledge and practical tools, the resource aims to empower individuals during distressing times, helping them navigate the challenging circumstances surrounding such events.
Through these initiatives, Blackfeet MMIP reinforces its dedication to advocacy and support, fostering a community that is informed and ready to act in the face of crisis.
